Broward Alliance for Neighborhood Development (BAND) is a coalition of non-profits and community stake holders with the mission to foster non-profits that create quality housing and strong neighborhoods; to work collaboratively; and to create decent housing that is affordable to low and moderate income people in a non-discriminatory manner.
For more than ten years, BAND has been at the forefront of the affordable housing needs for the residents and the non-profit development industry of Broward County. Over our history, BAND has expanded its programmatic and geographical reach and built extensive public-private collaborative partnerships with local government; but the coalition maintains its primary focus on providing affordable housing for low-to-moderate income households, community development and building the capacity of our non-profit members.
Through this evolution, BAND’s story has also come to reflect the growth and maturation of a few dedicated volunteers to an executive director and staff responsible for various grants and contracts in excess of $20 million in efforts to stabilize the local communities. BAND and its collaborative partners demonstrate that connecting our communities to affordable housing is a sound investment. Every day, BAND and its members help build better neighborhoods and support families across Broward County.
BAND members, advocacy and efforts have pushed the affordable housing crisis of low-to-moderate income households onto the radar of county governmental agencies, the business community and local and regional lenders whereas previously the problem was virtually overlooked.
In 2009, BAND embarked on its largest project: the Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) Initiative. Various BAND member organizations, under the directive of BAND’s Executive Director, were awarded almost $15 Million in NSP 1 funds from The City of Plantation, Sunrise, Hollywood and Broward County.
